The Handel and Haydn Search page is divided in several categories...
All search parameters are AND'ed together. Selecting a date range and a composer will limit searches to concerts within the date range AND only those concerts where the selected composer's composition was performed. The more search parameters included in a search query the more restrictive a search becomes.
Example, Selecting the date range 1/1/1815 to 12/31/1820 will display all concerts between those dates.

Then selecting George Frideric Handel will further restrict the results to only concerts between those date where Handel's music was performed. Clicking on the "Excerpts Only" button will further restrict the results to performances where only excerpts of Handel's music was performed.

Then selecting "Boylston Hall" further restricts the results to only concerts performed at that hall. Selecting "Mr. Huntington" restricts the results to a single concert. The final query could be stated as "Display all concerts between 1/1/1815 and 12/31/1820 where only excerpts of George Frederic Handel were performed in Boylston Hall and in which Mr. Huntington was a performer." The result is...

Because the Handel and Haydn Society has been performing concerts since 1815 the results of certain queries can become very large, especially with "open ended" queries such as "...all concerts after (a selected date)" or "...all concerts before (a selected date)" or "...all concerts by (a popular composer)". To limit the size of the results sets all queries will be restricted to the Date Range selected on the form,...1815 to 1850, 1850 to 1900, 1900 to 1950 and 1950 to Now.

The beginning year on a date range will begin on January 1st of that year. The last year of a selected date range will be on 31 December of that year. Additionally all result sets will be limited to 100 concerts.
